Welcome To Class

Welcome To Class

Thanks for booking onto classes with Fetch Club!

Below is everything you will need to know before coming to your group class. Please have a read through this page for information on how to find us, what to bring, and a guide to your first exercise at the bottom that you can get started on right away!

Greasbrough

How to find us – Our field can be found here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ibKuhqSKf93tFp4w7

We are on the farm opposite the address 3 Church Street, Greasbrough, S61 4EL. Google Maps should bring you close enough to find the farm driveway. The farm is called Manor House Farm. Use the full address when navigating as the postcode alone will take you to the wrong end of the road. Please give us a call upon arrival if you struggle to find us.

Parking – Please drive down past the house and park alongside our training field or at the bottom on the right hand side. This will leave the driveway clear for others arriving

Bolton on Dearne

How to find us – Our field can be found here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/2wVpwc81Hs7Bdtf68

We are right on the Trans Pennine Trail under the railway bridge between Wath Upon Dearne and Bolton on Dearne. If you are travelling in the direction from Wath to Bolton, we are on the right hand side. Please give us a call upon arrival if you struggle to find us.

Parking – There is parking for up to 4 cars in our training field. Just drive in through the gate and find a space. If these are taken, there is also ample parking on the track by the side of us, or across the road under the railway bridge.

Socialising dos and don'ts

Please do NOT allow your dogs to socialise upon arrival at the training field before class starts. There will be opportunities to socialise your dogs during class, and we will cover how to safely socialise your dog including how to identify body language cues and how to greet calmly.

Some of the dogs attending classes for the first time may be a little nervous. Please be respectful of everyone’s personal space and as classes progress you will discover who your dog would like to be friends with and who to give space to.

What you need to bring

Plenty of tasty treats! However many you think you may need for an hour class, triple it! We will be using a high rate of reinforcement from day one so please be prepared.

A small towel, mat, or blanket for your dog to relax on between exercises.

A fixed length lead. NO flexi leads in class. You can use a collar or harness.

A tuggy toy to reward your dog. Please no balls unless on a rope.

Poo bags! Make sure to pick any poos your dog does while in class.

Water and a small bowl for you dog.

Your first exercise - Marker Training

Marker training is a great way of bringing clarity to your training. It helps your dog to understand exactly what to do to get the reward. A marker is simply a sound that means “That’s correct!”

The most commonly used markers in dog training are clickers or the word “yes”.

Getting started:
1. Sit in front of your dog with a pot of treats next to you.
2. Say “yes” and give your dog a treat. Repeat this step around 30 times! Your dog doesn’t need to be doing anything specific. We are just teaching them that “yes” comes before we feed them.
3. Stop the game and ignore your dog. Wait for them to get bored and look away/wander off.
4. Say “yes” and observe your dog’s reaction. If they spin around looking for a treat, success! If they ignore you, repeat step 2. 20-30 more times.

It’s that easy!
You now have a marker and you are ready to start training. Enjoy the journey!
